 Easy
Origami was developed as a site to promote and support the Easy
Origami Page-a-Day Calendar.
Because it was a new concept in Page-a-Day calendars, it was important
to show sample pages and to make it easy to find a place to buy
the calendar.
The overall design and the navigational icons reflect both the simplicity
and the graphic design of the calendar. |

 Chickabiddy
is the website of a company that designs, manufactures and sells surf
and snowboard apparel for women.
They had an existing website, that was designed by somebody with
a background in print design. Consequently there were a lot of unnecessary
Flash elements and huge graphics. This was one area to improve, without
loosing the graphic feel of the site.
In specific they were also looking for a way to promote their new
summer
and winter
lines and integrate those pages smoothly into their existing Freemerchant
online store front. We decided to have an opening page that shows
every item of their line, with links to more detailed product pages. Any
of those product pages can be used as the starting point for a tour
of the whole line and include links to their online store.

Architects |

  Crisp
Architects is an successful architectural company that needed a basic
web presence. They needed a forum to showcase some of their
work and wanted the ability to add or remove projects quickly.
We decided on three categories which would cover most of their projects,
plus a fourth category that allowed them to write a bit more about their
agency.
Though each page contains a number of fairly large images, it was important
to keep load times to a minimum. On certain projects they wanted to be
able to show additional views of the house. On their renovations they
needed to show the "before" state. At the same time we did not
want to further increase
the load time and/or clutter the page. For this purpose we used a very
simple pop-up window that only loads if a viewer is interested in further
information on a project.

Abraham |

Pearl
Abraham is an award winning author and she needed a website
to answer the frequent inquiries from the media about her herself and her
work. But she did not want a self-promotional website. She was rather interested
in representing her work in a stylish and playful, yet accessible
way.
The site that we developed is of interest to readers, students and media
alike. We open with a "word puzzle" from which the answers lead
to the subsequent sections. We kept the puzzle simple and provided alternate
ways to get to the following sections in order to make the site easy to
access.
Information for the media, including publicity stills,
tour schedules, reviews, etc. is just one click away from
the opening page. At the same time an interested reader is able to explore
the author's work for hours on this site.

New Monthly Magazine |

Looking
for an article on Alexander Graham Bell in the 1876 edition of
Harper's New Monthly Magazine, I came across an article
about the town of Old Lyme, CT, of which I am a part time resident.
The article described the town in words and illustrations, which back
then was known as Lyme, and I was intrigued to see how little had changed.
This site is trying to document the development of the town taking
the article as a starting point.
I also wanted to reproduce the 2-column layout of the article as
faithfully as possible, using only HTML and style sheets.
This site is still in development (and will remain so for another while)...

In
August 2000, my work took me to Shanghai, China. The goal was to
record a concert of the Chinese pop star Wei Wei with the help of Chinese
Television.
Traveling with a team of 10 had its own challenges, but it was nothing
compared to the obstacles we encountered in working with CCTV and Shanghai
TV.
We ultimately decided not to record the concert, but it was was quite
a trip and I was glad to have my digital camera (Canon S10) to document
some of the "highs" and "lows". This site is nothing
more or less than a quickly designed photo album for fellow travelers,
friends and family.
